Mr. Gordon Lam is a railway signalling engineer with over 30 years’ experience in the industry. He started his career in Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) in Hong Kong in late 80’s. Since 1995 Gordon started to work in Mass Transit Railway (MTR) in different capacity and engaged full time assignments in Hong Kong and various cities in China Mainland in various stages. He is currently Chief Signal Engineer (Operations) in MTR in Hong Kong. Gordon oversees all signalling upgrading works in the network and direct development of signalling application in MTR.
His experiences covered Lantau Airport Railway, Tseung Kwan O extension, Disneyland Resort Line, etc. with various challenges in the dimensions of integration, interoperability and introduction of radio-based signalling system adopting automatic operation in Hong Kong. In addition, he was deployed full-time for over 10 years to China hubs including Shanghai, Hangzhou ad Beijing managing local operation extending to joint venture company management, deal negotiation and contracts/procurement management. In the time of stationing in China, there had been active participation in CBTC standards and other metro national standards development in China since 2005. He is a Fellow Member of Institution of Railway Signalling Engineers (IRSE) in UK since 2010 and currently serves as a Council Member (2021-2022) of IRSE and as a committee in the Education and Professional Development Committee of IRSE. He is also a corporate member in IET. His experience in the industry based in Hong Kong and participation in the launching of CBTC application in various cities in China strengthened a holistic view to sustain safe and efficient signalling services to metro systems and steered the forward steps in signalling application.
